Volkswagen is planning to launch its compact SUV Volkswagen Tiguan in India. Based on the Audi A5 platform, the car is very much luxurious. Volkswagen Tiguan is the new entry into the small SUV segment of Volkswagen. The SUV was first showcased at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was launched in Europe in 2008. The car had got great response at the Auto Expo held in New Delhi in January 2008. After its launch Tiguan will compete with other SUVs of its segment like Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour and yet to be launched Hyundai Santa Fe in the Indian car market.
Tiguan will be launched exclusively with turbocharged direct injection engines. This high-performance turbocharging significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions, yet immensely increases dynamics and driving pleasure. The car had won the 2008 Auto 1 Trophy in the category “Off-Roaders” at the 78th Geneva Motor show.
Volkswagen Tiguan is likely to be launched in the Indian market at the end of the year 2009. The car is expected to be priced around 20lacs.
